Key Benefits

Redwood Systems is revolutionizing the commercial lighting industry through a lighting control and building intelligence platform that is proven to deliver both ongoing energy savings and workspace productivity enhancements.

Best-In-Class Energy Savings

The Redwood Systems’ lighting control and building intelligence platform brings fine-grain sensor and control technology to a low voltage DC-powered network of highly efficient LED fixtures. This combination can provide a 75% reduction in ongoing electricity costs. The capabilities of the Redwood platform let facilities managers maximize energy conservation strategies such as dimming, daylight harvesting, demand response, peak reduction and activity sensing in controlling non-critical lighting without disturbing occupants. Additionally, Redwood Systems brings added HVAC savings by reducing ambient heat normally generated by less efficient lighting.

Redwood’s highly accurate motion detection and control of individual lights means maximizing energy savings without distracting occupants. LEDs dim far more efficiently than fluorescents so minor lighting level reductions can result in a significant energy savings. With light-level control, the system can respond to a multitude of energy-saving opportunities:

  • One-click daylight harvesting senses outside light and reduces powered fixtures while maintaining a comfortable overall ambient light level, resulting in average energy savings of 20-33%.
  • Minimally used space can dim when empty, brighten upon activity and dim as people leave.
  • Lights can dim or power off in unoccupied sections of large rooms without occupants even noticing.

Redwood Systems delivers on both cost savings and supports corporate sustainability and responsibility goals by contributing points to LEED certification.

Real-Time Energy Management & Reporting

Redwood Systems’ Manager software provides web-based system-wide tracking and management of the entire network, measuring and metering power throughout the network down to each sensor, fixture, and wall switch. A secure web interface with VoIP phone and smartphone support allow managers to administer the system from just about anywhere. The manager software includes a powerful array of online energy-saving controls and profiles, as well as a suite of pre-configured analytics based on automatic energy consumption logging to turn this data into actionable reports on energy and building efficiency.

This comprehensive energy metering system is the first of its kind and provides 100% visibility into where and how electric power is being used in lighting.

Monitor and Enhance Workspace Productivity

The Redwood distributed network of sensors provides more than just advanced lighting management. With a fine-grain level of monitoring throughout a building, the network can monitor, record and provide alerts and information for a range of applications:
Fixture-Level Management: Single-light control so individuals can benefit from optimal working conditions.
Temperature: Monitor temperatures at a fine-grain level and generate alerts for “out of band” conditions.
Security: Detect unauthorized access or instantly locate occupants.
Meeting Planning: See actual conference room availability in real-time based on occupancy, not calendar scheduling.
Space Utilization: Reports on actual conference room historical utilization and estimates how full rooms are.

Reduced Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance Costs

Installation costs are reduced up to 50% with Redwood Systems. With integrated power and control along with low-voltage wire or category cable, the system requires none of the traditional relays and junction boxes of code-compliant AC-powered systems. The low voltage wiring enables prefab opportunities and takes advantage of low voltage labor.

Redwood’s high-density sensor network eliminates the need for time-consuming occupancy/lighting sensor calculations for daylight harvesting. A one-button click activates daylighting. Plus, commissioning time can be reduced from days to hours. Once the fixtures are installed, the system automatically populates detailed fixture information into the Redwood Manager. Users simply create locations and “drag and drop” fixtures from the web interface into those locations.

Redwood Engines track and record network data in real time, including performance for lighting and temperature to the single fixture level. This enables Redwood to run LEDs cooler to maximize their already long life (up to 4x that of fluorescents) as well as report on maintenance issues. With Redwood Systems' technology, maintenance costs can be reduced up to 80%.

Flexible, Scalable, Open Platform

The Redwood Systems’ platform is scalable and modular so it’s possible to employ a few engines to support a small-sized network and scale to dozens of engines to support a campus. Fixtures are ‘plug-and-play’ so once installed, managers can easily add, move or re-configure lighting and policies as needed. Redwood’s sensor platform is highly extensible and can add new sensor types and applications such as air quality, pressure and air velocity.
